March/April 2010MAIN FEATURES![]() Mason Metals reaches 50 year milestone
March/April 2010 This year Mason Metals is celebrating half a century as a metal recycler.
The company is based in Brierley Hill, near to the Merry Hill Shopping Centre, and has grown to become one of the leading names in the West Midlands for the recycling of non-ferrous metal in the past fifty years.
And managing director Andrew Jones, who has been at the firm for almost 20 years, knows exactly why the firm has traded for so long.
"We are a little bit different to other facilities. Most peoples' perceptions of a scrap yard are some angry dogs and big piles of metal everywhere, but that is not the case here.
"People would come here and park outside and ask where the scrap yard is," he added. "So it doesn't resemble that type of place, it is a nice, clean facility providing a fair and honest service. Some people call it a modern yard within the scrappage trade."
Recently Mason Metals opened a new recycling warehouse in Blackheath to serve small business and households in Halesowen.
"It takes time to build it up but is going quite nicely at the moment. It is in a geographical area that we haven't quite tapped into. So we are quite excited about that and hopefully it will keep going."
The company specialises in metals that are not made with iron or steel, such as aluminium, copper, tin, nickel, zinc and lead as well as various alloys.
Mason Metals gets its raw material from residues of industrial production or from end-of-life products in companies and households. It has buying agreements with several of the Black Country's largest industrial companies as well as small businesses, such as engineers, plumbers, builders, electricians, along with householders, schools and charities.
It has sought to buy any quantity of metals, no matter how small, for processing and preparation as feedstock for metal recycling furnaces of all types in all countries of the world. They will be freed from unwanted material such as wood or plastics. Bulky objects will be cut or compressed, cable stripped and iron magnetically separated. Sound knowledge is necessary of the materials, and of their expert treatment and storage. All this is guaranteed through the highly-qualified personnel, technological resources and solid experience of the metals recycling sector.
A fast and efficient metal reception system is in place recognising that time spent and immediate payment are essential to businesses and householders alike. Furthermore the site is kept in a very clean condition out of respect for visiting vehicles delivering scrap metals. Care and courtesy and fair dealing have brought the company an impeccable reputation throughout the trade.
Despite times being tough for local businesses Jones does not believe that Mason Metals' story will end anytime soon.
