Business Report's Made in the Midlands campaign will be hosting it's first event on the 11th September at Wolverhampton Science Park.

 

A panel including: Sir Alan Jones, Gerrard Coyne, General Secretary, Unite, Simon Griffiths, CEO of MAS-WM, Patrick Palmer, Head of Access to Finance AWM and Nigel Gainer, Learning & Skills Council will answer questions form upto 100 manufacturers in the room.

 

This event is free to those companies involved in manufacturing, engineering, logistics and firsms closely linked to manufacturing.

Unified West Midlands fights recession

Businesses in the West Midlands are more capable than anywhere else in the UK of fighting the recession, according to an industry leader.

 

Chris Clifford, the West Midlands' regional director of lobbying group the CBI, claims that one of the region's biggest assets in the struggle against the current downturn is its people.

 

"I would say that there's a degree of solidarity here, which I have not found in other regions," Clifford said. "People want to come together and swap experiences where it counts to put their voice forward in a unified way."

Fairlawns join the campaign

It may be strange to see a hotel backing a manufacturing campaign but the importance of manufacturing to the economy is not lost on John Pette, the owner of Fairlawns Hotel and Spa.

 

"There's lots of talk of us being a service industry economy, but what so many people forget is that they can only exist if there is a demand for them," John said. "For there to be that demand we need others employing people, training them, designing products, manufacturing them, selling them and making profits.

Made in the Midlands comes to Wolverhampton
11th September: 9.45am
With more than 17,000 manufacturers in the West Midlands the performance of the industry is key to the prosperity of the local economy.

Made in the Midlands has been established to champion the sector in our region by bringing companies together to share best practice.

As part of the campaign, Made in the Midlands will be hosting a Manufacturing Matters seminar where company directors will be able to put their concerns to a panel of prominent public and private sector figures.

The free event will be staged at Wolverhampton Science Park on September 11 with the Q&A starting at 10am followed by coffee and networking.
